Meet the Midwife
About Sena Johnson, Experienced Home Birth Midwife in Denver
Supporting families with compassion, expertise, and holistic care since 1985.
Hello, I’m Sena Johnson, a registered home birth midwife with over 1,100 births attended since I began this journey in 1985. Based in Lakewood, I serve the greater Denver area and neighboring communities that seek a personalized, empowering birth experience outside the hospital setting. I’ve practiced as an independent senior midwife in Colorado since 1987, attending births as the primary midwife, assistant, or as a mentor to midwives-in-training.
My Philosophy
I believe in supporting the whole person – not just the body, but also the mind and spirit. This is why I bring holistic approaches to my midwifery practice, offering additional services such as Craniosacral Therapy, Reiki, nutrition counseling, herbal support, and homeopathy. My care extends to postpartum and newborn support, ensuring continuity and confidence for you and your family.
Inclusive and Affirming Midwifery Care
Inclusivity is essential to my practice. I aim to provide a safe, supportive environment where every family feels valued, respected, and heard. Whether you are part of the LGBTQ+ community, a single parent, or from any walk of life, my goal is to offer compassionate care that aligns with your values and needs.
Why Choose Home Birth?
Home birth is an intimate and family-centered choice, allowing you to give birth in a familiar, comfortable space surrounded by those you love. I come prepared to ensure a safe, organized environment and will guide you through every stage – from prenatal visits to labor and birth, and finally, postpartum care.
My Philosophy
Midwives are the guardians of the normal.
During prenatal care our focus is on maintaining a normal healthy pregnancy. The emphasis is on good nutrition, exercise, and dealing with the normal psychological and emotional changes.
At the birth I will do as little as possible and as much as necessary. This means that I limit routine interference in the natural birth process. It also means I bring experience with the wide range of what is normal, as well as dealing with complications and emergencies which may be able to be resolved at home or may require transport.
New parents and babies thrive with support on the physical and emotional level. Breastfeeding is meant to work and long term support in the first year facilitates that.
How we birth can both reflect and change our lives. I strive to honor you in your power and your vulnerability during the child bearing years. My goal is for my clients to walk into their new lives feeling empowered and informed.
